Caring with Caution!
Sterilization
A dental clinic like all medical facilities see a variety of patients and in these settings the risk of cross infection from one patient to the next or from doctor to the patient or vice versa is high due to the close interaction between a doctor and patient.
In today’s dental practice the diseases which need special attention are the control of Hepatitis B and HIV infection both of which can be controlled by adequate and appropriate dental sterilization techniques.
A dental facility necessarily uses a wide variety of instruments and materials. Stringent techniques of decontamination, disinfection and sterilization need to be followed to ensure a healthy and happy experience by both doctor and patient.
We at Dr. Potdar’s Dental clinic follow strict measures to ensure complete asepsis and prevent cross infection.
Washing under a stream of water for 5 minutes
The instruments are washed and scrubbed as soon as they are used to remove the frank debris on the instruments.
Dip in Savlon for Chemical Sterilization
Savlon is a disinfectant which contains chlorhexidine gluconate and cetrimide as active ingredients and is used as an antiseptic solution in which the instruments are kept for 30mins.

Digital Ultrasonic Cleaner
The ultrasonic cleaners produce vibrations which aid in removing the persistent debris.
Autoclave
Autoclave is the most widely accepted method of sterilization of all instruments. It destroys all forms of bacteria, their spores along with HIV and Hepatitis B viruses.
Autoclave is a device in which the instruments are sterilized by steam under high pressure.

Glass Bead Sterilizer
Glass bead sterilizer is used for sterilizing small instruments (eg.root canal instruments, burs, etc) which come under the classification of critical instruments as these require complete sterilization to ensure success of the endodontic treatment.
Individual patient trays and instrument pouches
Once the instruments are segregated and washed they are placed in pouches which are sterilized and are changed for each patient.

Disposal of biowaste.
There is periodic disposal of biowaste and the suction tips are changed for every patient.
This step wise protocol is deeply inculcated in all our staff members to ensure safe and disease free dental treatment for all our patients.
